It is a parabola with a negative intercept in the y-axis. So the equation must be of the form y=ax^2 - c

Option C matches the equation.

If you know a lot about equations of parabolas, then the answer is obvious here. But you don't need to know about parabolas for the GMAT. You can still answer this question quickly just using standard GMAT coordinate geometry (intercepts and lines) :

We can see in the picture that the y-intercept is negative. If you plug in x=0, only A, C and E give a negative y-intercept. The graph is not a line, so A cannot be right. The graph has two x-intercepts, but if we plug y=0 into answer E, we will only have one solution, not two. So C must be right.
