no of 1*1 squares ; 8*8 = 64,
2*2 squares= 7*7 , 3*3 squares = 6*6;36, 4*4 squares=5*5

6*6 squares = 3*3
7*7 squares =2*2
8*8 squares = 1*1
total
1^2+2^2+3^2+....+8^2
1+4+9+16+25+36+49+64

Could you please explain to me how do you get to 2*2 = 7*7 and 3*3 = 6*6?

I'm having trouble to see those squares.

likewise, for me I see 16 squares that are 2x2 rather than 49,
