Given:
- • A drum contains 3 to 5 jars each of which contains 30 to 40 marbles.
• 10 percent of the marbles are flawed.
To find:
- • The greatest possible number of flawed marbles in the drum.
Approach and Working:
As we are trying to find out the greatest possible number of flawed marbles in the drum, we should consider the case where number of marbles present in the drum is maximum.
- • Maximum number of jars = 5
• Maximum number of marbles in each jar = 40
• Hence, maximum number of total marbles in the jar = 40 x 5 = 200
• Therefore, the greatest possible number of flawed marbles in the drum = 10% of 200 = 20
Hence, the correct answer is option D.
