In 1952, I was as old as the number formed by last two digits of my birth year. When i mentioned this to my grandfather he surprised me by saying that the same applied to him also. The difference in our ages is.

For the grandson to be as old as the last two digits of his birth year in 1952, he should be half of 52 that is 26.
We know that the grandson is 26. Let's play with the answer choices to see which one fits for the grandfather.
A. If the grandfather was 40 years older than the grandson, he was born in 1886 which makes him 40+26 = 66 years old (Eliminate)
B. If the grandfather was 50 years older than the grandson, he was born in 1876 which makes him 50+26 = 76 years old (There it is!)
Answer is (B)

Let us assume birth year to be 19xy. In 1952, age is 52 - xy where x = tenth digit and y = unit digit of year of birth which is equal to last 2 digits of year of birth => 52- xy = xy => xy= 26.
For grandfather let us assume year of birth as 18xy. Using similar reasoning we get 1952 - 18xy = xy => 152 - xy = xy => xy = 76.
Difference in ages = 76-26 = 50.
