B/2÷(B + B/2)=1/2 ÷ 3/2=1/3

Another approach is to assign some values that meet the given conditions.
The population of Country A is 50 percent of the population of Country B.
So, it could be the case that Country B has a population of 20, which means Country A has a population of 10
The population of Country A is what fraction of the total population of Country A and Country B?
Total population of Country A and Country B = 10 + 20 = 30
Required fraction = 10/30, which simplifies to be 1/3
Answer: A
Let x: population of A; y: Population of B; x+y: the total population; z the fraction we're looking for.
"The population of Country A is 50 percent of the population of Country B"----> x=(1/2)y; so y=2x
"The population of Country A is what fraction of the total population of Country A and Country B?"---> z=x/(x+y); so z=x/(x+2x)
z=x/3x
z=1/3

Solution:
- Let us assume the population of country B be \(x\)
- So, the population of country A will be % of B or \(= \frac{50}{100}\times x=\frac{x}{2}\)
- We are asked the value of \(\frac{\text{Population of A}}{\text{Population of A + B}}=\frac{\frac{x}{2}}{\frac{x}{2}+x}=\frac{\frac{x}{2}}{\frac{3x}{2}}=\frac{1}{3}\)
Hence the right answer is Option A
