The question should have read “The number of members above 25 years of age is 16, which is 2/3 of the numbers of members of 25 years of age”; otherwise the question does not make sense. If there are 16/(2/3) = 24 members at the age of 25, then the number of members above 15 years of age is surely greater than 24 because the number of members who are 25 years old is included in the number of members above 15 years old.

Assuming the question is intended as above, let n be the number of members in this club. We determined that there are 16 members above 25 years old and 24 members that are 25 years old. Then, there are 16 + 24 = 40 members who are 25 or older; i.e. 40 members who are not below 25 years old. Since 100 - 20 = 80% of the members are not below 25 years old, we must have:

0.8n = 40

n = 50

Answer: A

In a club, 20% of members are below 25 years of age. The number of members above 25 years of age is 16, which is two- third of number of members of 25 years of age. What is the total number of members in the club?

As per the question, \((2/3)*x = 16\) or, x = 24.
Let, total number of students = t.
Below the age of 25 = t - 16 - 24 = t - 40.
As per the question, t - 40 = \((20/100)*t\) or, t = 50. Option (A) is correct.
