Let's assume the original price of stock to be X.
After first day the price fell down to be 0.8X(20% reduced).
Again the price fell down by 20% making the price of stock 0.8*0.8x.
This is equal to 32 = 0.8*0.8x.
X=50 (original price of the stock).

Day 1. 4/5X

Day 2. 16/25X

16/25 X = 32

X=50,, Which is at beginning of day 1, end of day 1 would be 40.

First day price reduced by 20% so 100 - 20 = 80
Second day price reduced by 20% more so 80*20% = 16 -> 80-16 = 64
we can write it as 64x = 32 (given)
so x = 32/64 = 1/2 = 50

hope my calculation is correct?

nice explanation
thanks
First day price reduced by 20% so 100 - 20 = 80

Second day price reduced by 20% more so 80*20% = 16 -> 80-16 = 64
we can write it as 64x = 32 (given)
so x = 32/64 = 1/2 = 50

hope my calculation is correct?

The price of the stock of the ACME corporation decreased by 20 percent on Day 1 and by 20 percent again on Day 2. If the price of the stock at the end of Day 2 was $32, what was the price of the stock at the beginning of Day 1?

A. $64
B. $53
C. $50
D. $48
E. $40
