13 married couples attended a wedding ceremony, each woman gave a pack of chocolates to everyone except her spouse, and no exchange of gifts took place between men. How many gifts were exchanged among these people?

A. 78
B. 312
C. 325
D. 468
E. 624

There are 13 men and 13 women.
A woman gives a total of 24 gifts i.e. she doesn't offer any gift to herself and her spouse.
So, total gifts = 13 * 24 = 312

IMO Answer B.

13 couples, then 26 total (men and woman)
1 women gives 26-2=24 packs
13 woman *24=312 packs

We are given that, there are 13 married couples meaning that 26 men and women are here.
1 woman can be selected in 26 ways.
1 man can be selected in 24 ways.
The number of ways the gifts can be exchanged among these people = 26 * 24 = 624

13 couples i.e. 26 individuals.
Each women has gifted every individual except her spouse. i.e. each women will be presenting 24 gifts (remove one for the woman and one for her husband)
So total is 13*24= 312.

There are 13 women:

The first woman gives 12 women 12 different gifts. No gifts are exchanged.

The second woman gives 12 women 11 different gifts and 1 gift which she received from the first woman. 1 gift is exchanged.

The third woman gives 12 women 10 different gifts and 2 gifts which she received from the first two women.... 2 gifts are exchanged.
......
The thirteenth woman gives 12 women 12 gifts which she received from other 12 women.

1 +2 +3+4+5+....+ 12 = 78
In total, 78 gifts are exchanged.

The answer is A
