FORMULA IS:

\((V*P)+H\)

Thus:
\(V*S+V*T+2H\)
\(V(S+T)+2H\)

The cost of purchasing each box of candy from a certain mail order catalog is v dollars per pound of candy, plus a shipping charge of h dollars. How many dollars does it cost to purchase 2 boxes of candy, one containing s pounds of candy and the other containing t pounds of candy, from this catalog?

A. h + stv
B. 2h + stv
C. 2hstv
D. 2h + s + t + v
E. 2h + v (s + t )

PS34880.02
Since there are two boxes, each will cost shipping charges h. Hence 2h is necessary. So
Cost of purchase is 2h + st + sv

Answer E.

Each box costs = v$ per pound +h

So..
1) Box containing s pounds will cost = s*v+h
2) Box containing t pounds will cost = t*v+h

Total = s*v+h + t*v+h = 2h+v(s+t)

Thank you for your helpful explanation. I was confused as to why we need 2h and not just h? I realize the only correct option has 2h but based on the wording, "plus a shipping charge of h dollars" seems to be a flat fee to me? Thanks again.

I am wrong for thinking the question is written in a bad way?
they should be precise in saying the the shipping charge H is for each box and to for the order in total.

they should be precise in saying the the shipping charge H is for each box and to for the order in total.

The way it is written, its intended meaning is that each box will be shipped at h and each pound contained at some rate.

The cost of purchasing each box of candy from a certain mail order catalog is v dollars per pound of candy, plus a shipping charge of h dollars.

If it was, The cost of purchasing candies includes fixed Shipping charges and each pound at s, then it would mean h+(s*number of pounds)

This question also appears in OG24-25 QR and categorised as medium diffuclty level question.
Additionally, regarding the way it is written, I think that is why they omitted "[v*(s+t) + h]" as an answer choice. Otherwise, many people would have gotten it wrong.
