Let x be number of DVD's sold individually.
=> number of packs of DVD sold= (1000-x)/3
=> Total revenue= (individual*price of individual) + (packs*price per pack) = (average price * total number)
=> 20*x + 50*(1000-x)/3 = 18*1000
Solving for x, we get
x= 400
Hence, answer to this is D

Let the individual DVD's sold = x
Let the packs of DVD's sold = y
Therefore number of DVD's sold in the packs = 3y
Total DVD's Sold = x + 3y = 1000 ---- (1)
Total price of the DVD's = 20x + 50y = 18 * 1000 = 18,000 ---- (2)
We need to find x, the number of Individual DVD's sold
From 1: y = (1000 - x)/3
Putting in 2, we get: 20x + 50 * (1000 - x)/3 = 18000
Multiplying throughout by 3, we get
60x + 50000 - 50x = 54000
10x = 4000
x = 400
