The Parpirelli factory produces several kinds of instant pasta sauces. Last year, Parpirelli produced 340 tons of pasta sauce, out of which 200 tons contained basil. One hundred ten tons of the pasta sauce produced last year contained garlic but did not contain basil, and 50 tons contained basil but did not contain garlic. How many tons of garlic-free pasta sauce did Parpirelli produce last year?

We will have to distribute the sauces in two parts
1) With basil
Total -200
Given that 50 tons contained basil but not garlic.
2) Without basil
Total 340-200=140
Given that 110 tons of these contained garlic, remaining 30 did not.
Total - 50+30=80 tons

You can also make a 2*2 matrix for this

Total....................340
We are looking for non garlic, so 50+d.
d=140-110=30
50+d=50+30=80
