CONCEPT: Volume of 3D figures.
-Volume of a cylinder= ∏r^2h (r=radius of base; h=height of cylinder)
SOLUTION:
Volume of the old cylinder(V1)= ∏*(6)^2*3=∏*36*3
Volume of the new cylinder(V2) = ∏*(3)^2*h =∏*9*h ;(h=height of the new cylinder)
Volume of the metal remaining unchanged, we have V1=V2
Thus, ∏*36*3 = ∏*9*h
=>h=12 units.(D)
