Ratio of Apple concentration to water = 2:7 >>totaling to 9X

We are given each can = 8 ounces: so the ratio of weights of cans (AC: Water : Total ) = 8:28:36

We are also given that total mixture weighs = 2880 Ounces >> 36X = 2880 therefore X = 80

Therefore No of cans= 8 * 80 /8 = 80 Cans

According to the preparation direction on a can of frozen apple juice concentration, a can of concentrate is to be mixed with 3.5 cans of water to prepare apple juice. How many 8 ounce cans of the concentrate are needed to make 2880 ounce servings of apple juice ?

A. 30
B. 40
C. 60
D. 80
E. 160

Each can of concentrate is combined with 3.5 cans of water to produce 4.5 cans of juice.
Implication:
4.5 cans of juice = 1 can of concentrate
Thus:

\(\frac{2880-ounces-of-juice}{1} * \frac{1-can-of-juice}{8-ounces-of-juice} * \frac{1-can-of-concentrate}{4.5-cans-of-juice} = 80\)

Alternatively, we can PLUG IN THE ANSWERS, which represent the number of cans of concentrate.

B:
\(\frac{40-cans-of-concentrate}{1} * \frac{4.5-cans-of-juice}{1-can-of-concentrate} * \frac{8-ounces}{1-can-of-juice} = 1440\)

Since B yields 1440 ounces -- half the required amount -- the correct answer must be TWICE THE VALUE OF B.
