If the total revenue in 2012 had been 50% greater, the average revenue from 2011-2016 would have been approximately how much greater?

A. $150,000
B. $200,000
C. $220,000
D. $240,000
E. $280,000

I thanks a lot to VeritasKarishma for her blogs and the intuitive approach for solving these type of questions or rather for any type of question.
Links on the theory part of how to solve this questions:
https://www.gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-prep-resource-links-no-longer-available-399979.html#/2012/04 ... etic-mean/
https://www.gmatclub.com/forum/veritas-prep-resource-links-no-longer-available-399979.html#/2012/05 ... eviations/

My earlier approach would have been to first find the existing AM and then find the new AM and then subtract old AM from new AM to find the answer.

My new approach:

If the total revenue in 2012 had been 50% greater,
Total revenue in 2012 = $2.4 million.
50% greater of the total revenue in 2012 = 50% of $2.4 million = $1.2 million.

Now, this $1.2 million has to be distributed equally to 6 yearly values (2011-2016, 6 years).
So, the value distributed to each year (from 2011-2016) is $1.2 million / 6 = $200,000.

Hence, the average revenue from 2011-2016 would have been approximately greater by $200,000.
Option B. $200,000.

Regards,
Ravish.

P.S. - I'm extremely thankful to GMATClub for this awesome platform and to other experts, particularly VeritasKarishma (Karishma Ma'am) for expanding my horizon and thinking on how to approach the Quant problems alternatively, intuitively and solve within 2 minutes. Earlier, I thought about these as short-cuts/tricks and despised them by saying that these methods are not useful or apply only to certain specific scenarios/cases. Now, I love these alternate ways and look forward to intuitive approach to solve any question.

I am thrilled to hear this ravish844. It is rewarding to know that the work we do has an impact on test takers.
Yes, these are not "tricks" or "shortcuts". Only when one understands the concept through and through is one able to use these holistic approaches. They do save a lot of time.
You are also right about how amazing a platform GMAT Club is. Credit to bb, Bunuel, moderators, instructors and all members for initiating and maintaining a co-operative and respectful learning environment.

50 % of 2.4 million is 1.2 million that would create the difference and to find the average need to divide this difference with number of terms i.e 6 so $1.2 million=$1200000/6=$200000 is the answer
