A monkey tries to ascend a greased pole which is 14m high. He ascends 2m in first 2 minutes and slips 1m in every alternate minute. If he continues this way, how long it would take him to reach the top?

In 2 min it climbs 2m and in 1 min it falls 1m
This, in 3 min it effectively climbs 1m
Thus, for 14m, it should ideally take 14*3 = 42 min
However, in the 42nd min, it fell 1m, hence, after 41m, it was already at 14+1 = 15m implying it had already climbed up.
Let's go back 2 more min:
After 39 min, it had reached 15-2 = 13m
In the previous min, it had fallen 1m.
Let's go back one more min:
After 38 min, it had climbed 39+1 = 40m
Thus, the correct answer is 38 minutes

in 2min monkey goes 2 mt forward next 1 min he is back by 1mt, so effective progress 1 mt in 3mins, but its not uniform
let us check the progress in multiple of 3 i.e in 36mins; monkey will be 36/3=12 mt ahead, and in 39 mins monkey would be at 39/3=13 mtr ahead but in the last minute he must have fallen from 14th mtr.
So monkey reached 14th mtr in 39-1=38 minutes
