Calculate 5x + 11 < 300

--> x < 57,8

and since x is an int, x<57.

You could be tempted to click on (B); however, we want to know for how many values the positive expression (5x + 11) will be < 300.

x could be also 0,-1 and -2, since all these values still make a positive expression of (5x + 11) and are less than 300.


So: Answer is (E) 60 values.

Your soln. is correct but if I may point out just a small oversight.

Note \(x \leq 57 \) not just \(x<57\) we need to include \(57. \)

This can also be solved algebraically..

5x + 11 > 0 (positive integer)
Thus, x > -2.2 (caveat: x can only take integer values)

Similarly, Q asks for how many integer values will 5x + 11 < 300. Solving this we get x < 57.8.

Range of x: -2.2 < x < 57.8 (only integer values)
Thus x = -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ....., 57
