Average (arithmetic mean) amount of electricity used per household per hour = y kilowatts
Average (arithmetic mean) amount of electricity used per household in 24 hours = 24*y kilowatts
Assume that the community has n houses. The total amount of electricity used by all of the households during 24 hours = \(24y * n\)
Given - "..the total amount of electricity used by all of the households during a 24-hour period was x kilowatts.."
\(24y * n = x\)
\(n = \frac{x}{24y}\)
