If |x| = -x, which of the following must be true?
A. x≥ 0
B. x≤ 0
C. x^2 > x
D. x^3 < 0
E. 2x < x

I don't understand why option C is not correct

|x| = -x implies that x is negative or 0. When x = 0, x^2 > x is not true.

Hope it helps.

sahilsahh, you wrote:

Quote:
x^2 > x: This is not always true if x is negative. For example, (-2)^2 = 4, which is not greater than -2.

4 is always greater than -2. If x is -3, then \(x^2\) = 9, which is always greater than -3. Then how come option C is incorrect?

And, |x| is the distance of x from zero; zero is non-negative. But |x| is "-x", how come x = 0?

Bunuel, can you please explain this? Since zero is non-negative, why is -x could be zero here?

Because x = 0 satisfies |x| = -x.
