To simplify we can round this off to nearest multiple of 5,

50*n < 1750
n < 35

So, max value of n possible is 34.

No supporter contribute less than 50$ . If least is 50 then no of supporter is 34 then 1700 in total, then 49 is remaining, as no one can contribute less than 50 or least 50 than question stem is invalid.,

Your partial understanding is correct that 34 people will need to contribute $50 each to make it to $1700, but the total we need here is 1749, which means some of these 34 supporters will need to contribute more than $50, let's say one of the supporter contributes 50 + 49 = $99, and if rest of them (33 supporters) contribute $50 each, then the total now would be $1749, which matches our requirement.

If there would have been 35 supporters with min $50 contribution each, then total would have been $1750 which is more than what we need, so the max number of supporters for the core logic to hold true should be 34.
