Another way of doing this is to plug a number:

Say X = 100

On Sunday the stock's value grew by half of its value ==> 100 + 50 = 150

but on Monday its value dropped to a third of its new value ==> 150 / 3 = 50

So started at 100, ended at 50, which is 100/2

Option B (X/2)

Initial Stock value = X

On Sunday, Stock value grew by Half its Value = X + (X/2) = 3X/2 .

On Monday, the value drops by (1/3) of (3X/2) = (1/3)*(3X/2) = X/2

Option B

The value of a stock is X dollars. (Let, X=100)
On Sunday the stock's value grew by half of its value, 100+100/2=150
On Monday its value dropped to a third of its new value, 150/3=50
The value of stock at the end of Monday=50 or X/2
