Another way to do this is to add up all the equations:
q+p=22
q+r=24
p+r=18

Gives us 2(p+q+r)=64 which means p+q+r=32..........(1)

Plugging in p+r=18 in (1),
We get q+18 = 32

That means q=14 which is option C.

q + p = 22
q + r = 24

By adding the two, we obtain :
2q + p + r = 46

By subtracting the last expression, we obtain :
2q = 28 ---> q = 14

Just add 24 and 18 together then you have q,p,r,r so just subtract their sum which is 42 with 22 you will subtract q and p leaving r and r which equals to 20 and divide them with 2 to get what one r is then subtract that r with 24 so 24-10= 14
