The kinetic energy of a particle is proportional to the square of its velocity. If the velocity increases by 20%, then the kinetic energy will increase by

A) 40%

B) 44%

C) 140%

D) 144%

E) 400%
Given :
Kinetic energy is proportional to the square of velocity.
If velocity increases by 20%,
Velocity = 1.2 V
kinetic energy becomes the square of 1.2V =1.44
Kinetic energy becomes 1.44 times the original
Hence , the increase is 1.44 - 1 = 0.44
i.e 44 %

We are given K is proportional to \(V^2\)

In other words K1=A constant N* \(V1^2\)

V2=1.2V1

Thus K2=Constant N* \((1.2V1)^2\)

\(\frac{K1}{K2}\)= \(\frac{V1^2}{1.44V1^2}\)

K2=1.44K1 or 44% Increase
