x = 1/(8*2400)
After 20 days, 1/3rd of work would be complete.
Required equation:
y[25/(8*2400) + 15/(3*8*2400)] = 2/3
Solving for y:
= 1280/3 hrs.
Now they are asking time needed to complete project on time which is 40 days.
1280/(3*40) = 32/3 = 10.6hrs.
The extra time per day = 10.6-8 = 2.6 hrs or 2hr 40mins.

Let 1 normal man’s productivity per hour = 1 unit.
Total work
40 men × 8 hr/day × 60 days = 19200 units
Work completed in first 20 days
40 × 8 × 20 = 6400 units
Remaining work:
19200 − 6400 = 12800 units
Remaining time = 40 days
New team after 20 days
25 normal men remain
15 replacements join, each only 1/3 as productive
25 original men remain = 25 units/hr
15 new men at 1/3 efficiency = 15/3 = 5 units/hr
So total new rate:
