This problem has drove me crazy. I cannot see how the answer is D.
Even from the two statements, x could still be anything.
For statement 1: if x was lets say, -2, the statement would be false. So right off the bat the first statement is insufficient.
For statement 2: take that same -2 and you also have an insufficient answer, -27 is not greater than 0.
I picked E and was marked wrong. This leads me to believe either I am not seeing something or the site is not credible.
They do have a disclaimer stating * GMAT is a registered trademark of the Graduate Management Admission Council, which was not involved in the production of, and does not endorse, this product.

Is x > 0 ?
(1) -2x < 0 --> reduce by -2 and flip the sign since dividing by negative value: x > 0. Sufficient.
(2) x^3 > 0. Take the cube root: x > 0. Sufficient.
Answer: D.
This is sub-500 question. You need to brush fundamentals.
