Directly insert X=0 in the inequality: 1/(5 - X) > X/5

We get, 1/(5-0)>0/5 ----> 1/5>0, which is true

Now insert X=7 in the inequality:

We get, 1/(5-7)>7/5 ----> 1/(-2) > 7/5 -----> negative > positive, which is never true.

So, we get 2 different answers for X<8 as well as X>-8.

Hence, the answer should be E.

Answer Is Definitely is E...

After simplifying the inequality we Obtain : X^2- 5X +5 > o

So here the question becomes whether this new inequality greater than zero ?

However, if we put 2 in the place of variable X , we get negative answer and other numbers will give us positive answer. Here we see that both data 1 and 2 can not eliminate the possibility of 2
instead of variable X in the inequality , so the answer should be E :P

Is 1/(5 - X) > X/5?

(1) X < 8.
(2) X > -8.


Looking at the statements (1) & (2), you may observe that if each statement fails individually then you would have to test -8<X<8.
So it would be a good idea to test +ve and -ve values for each statement itself.

Statement 1) X < 8
Say X= 7 => \(\frac{1}{(-2)}\) >\(\frac{7}{5}\).. False
Say X=-7 => \(\frac{1}{12}\) > \(\frac{-7}{5}\) .. True
Insufficient

Statement 2) Follow same assumptions as Statement 1) .. Insufficient.

Statement 1) & 2) combined .. Follow same assumptions as Statement 1) .. Insufficient.

Answer is Choice E)

Simplest way is substitution of variables , both fail to satisfy individually and together too
