If 2 < x < 6, what is the value of x?

(1) 15 is a multiple of x.
(2) 21 is a multiple of x.

Statement 1: 15 is a multiple of 15. x could be 3 or 5. NOT sufficient.

Statement 2; 21 is a multiple of x. only 3 is appropriate in this case. Sufficient.

IMO answer should be  B .
Since we are given a range 2 < x < 6, we can check for the values which satisfy the statements and proceed.

Statement 1:  x can be 3 or 5. Not sufficient.

Statement 2:  x can only be 3. Sufficient.

pankajpatwari Diwakar003 We are told 21 is a multiple of x, in the range 2 < x < 6, only 3 satisfies the condition. Hope that's clear.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, we are told 21 is a multiple of x but not an  integral multiple  of x. Do both multiple and integral multiple mean the same? If yes, then the answer could very well be B.

I think answer is E is as well. Condition “integer” isn’t mentioned anywhere.

Quite a few people are confused that answer should be E because its not mentioned that 'x' is an integer.

But the thing is, that when we talk about factors/multiples, then both factor and multiple being talked about have to be integers only, otherwise the words 'factors' and 'multiples' will not make sense.

Eg, if we say that x is a factor of 15, then we have to assume that x is a positive integer and a factor of 15, so x can only be 1 or 3 or 5 or 15. 
Similarly if we say that Y is a multiple of 15, then Y has to be an integer which is a multiple of 15, eg, Y can be 15*4 (60) or 15*15 (225) or 15*578 and so on.. But Y cannot be 15*-2 (-30) and Y also cannot be 15*2.5 etc.

Yes if X is given to be a multiple, it is an integer.

Multiple is defined for integer only.

"A multiple of a number is that number multiplied by an integer."

Yes, whenever we talk of a multiple or a factor, we talk of an integer..

5 will not be a multiple of 2.5..
Mutiple means integers that come in a multiplication table

c could be 3 or 5 insufficient. If A is 5 then x is 3. If A is 3 then x is 5.

2) 21 = B*x

x can be 3 or 7, since it cannot be 7 then it is 3.

Sufficient.

Answer choice B.
