In a right triangle PQR, right angled at vertex P, What is the measure of angle R?
1) QR = 5
2) PQ = 3
Source:
https://www.GMATinsight.comquestion has asked measure of angle of R.
for right angled vertex P ∆ , the ratio of the sides ∆ can be either in 3:4:5 triplet format or 30:60:90 ; x;x√3:2x or 45:45:90 ; x:x;2x
#1
given QR= 5
so 2x=5
x=5/2
but we do not know whether its 30:60:90 or 45:45:90 type ∆ ; insufficient
#2
PQ = 3
again angle of the side of ∆ is not know also type of ∆ is also not clear to say conclusively whether itrs phythagorous triplet or a special case right -eld ∆
insufficient
from 1 & 2
QR=5 opposite angle 90
PQ=3 ; opposite angle
we can take two possibilites
if 30:60:90
x=3 ; but we do not get 2x= 5
x√3=3 ; x= √3 ; 2x = 2*√3= 3.46 again not sufficient
given the side are 5;3 ; the other side will be 4 using phythagorous triplet but not sure what will be the angle
GMATinsight ; sir question has asked for angle corresponding to side QP or say angle R ; from the given info we can determine third side but what and how can we find the angle R? will upon finding the length of the third side of ∆ be sufficient to answer the question which has asked for the angle?
