Is \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) negative?

(1) rt is negative --> insuff: if s<0, then the answer is yes, but if s> 0, then the answer is no
(2) s is negative --> insuff: rt not = 0, then the answer is yes. but r=0 or t=0, then the answer is no

Combining (1)&(2)==> rt not= 0 & s<0, so \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) < 0

Is \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) negative?

(1) rt is negative
(2) s is negative

Question: Is \(r^6*s^3*t^4 < 0\) ?

But\( r^6*s^2*t^4 ≥ 0\) whereas \(r^6*s^3*t^4 = r^6*s^2*t^4*s\)

It's nowhere given that the variables are non-zero

So Question REPHRASED: Is s <0 ?

Statement 1: rt is negative

NOT SUFFICIENT

STatement 2: s < 0

If s < 0 then answer to the question is Yes

if, s =0 the answer to the question as NO hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

Combining

If s < 0 then answer to the question is Yes
if, s =0 the answer to the question as NO hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

Answer: Option E

If s is negative, then how come s could equal to zero??!!!

Is \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) negative?

(1) rt is negative
(2) s is negative

GMATBusters Collection

#1
rt is -ve
so either of r is -ve or t is +ve or vice versa
no info about s as s power is odd and its sign value is imp to know whether \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) negative
insufficient
#2
s is -ve
so \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) negative can be possibly ; but also r=s=0 so insufficient
from 1 &2
we can surely say that \(r^6*s^3*t^4\) is negative
hence sufficient

Is r^6s^3t^4 negative?

(1) rt is negative
(2) s is negative

r^6t^4 will be positive or 0. s can be positive or negative or 0.
Statement 1: rt<0
No info about s
Insufficient
Statement 2: s<0
But rt can be 0
Insufficient
Both statements together:
rt is not 0 and s<0
Sufficient
