Question: x/y = ?
Statement 1: x = 2y
Dividing both sides by y
i.e. x/y = 2
SUFFICIENT
Statement 2:x = y + 2
Case 1: at y = 1, x = 3 and x/y = 3/1
Case 2: at y = 2, x = 4 and x/y = 2/1
NOT SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option A

statement 1: x= 2y
y can be + or -
since its not inequality, one can divide both sides by y, which is a variable.
x/y = 2; therefore Sufficient.
statement 2: x= y+2
dividing both sides by y, we get
x/y = 1+(2/y)
this implies x/y will always be a function of y, or value of x/y is dependent on y.
therefore, not a fixed value, and thus, not sufficient
Answer: A
