If x and y are positive integers, what is the value of xy?
(1) \(x^y*y=1215\)
(2) \(y>x\)

target find value of x*y
#1
\(x^y*y=1215\)
1215 = 3^5*5
so \(x^y*y=1215\)
can be 1215^1*1 or 3^5*5 or 1^1215*1215
insufficient
#2
y>x
insufficient
from 1 &2
3^5*5 ; xy or 1^1215 *1215

insufficient

Please refer the below-mentioned Video solution for the detailed explanation

Answer: Option C

That solution is not correct.

If x^y * y = 1215, we have three possibilities. Two of these are 'trivial':

x = 1 and y = 1215
x = 1215 and y = 1

To find the third, we need to prime factorize 1215:

1215 = 5*243 = (3^5)(5)

and we can see now that x = 3 and y = 5 is another possibility.

Since y > x in two of the three cases, we don't know if x = 3 or if x = 1215, and since xy is different in those two cases, the answer is E.
