From Statement 1: If Edgar is 5 yeras old, then John is twice his age = 10 and Clara will also be twice edgars age = 10.
From this statement we only get J = C > E
Statement 1 is insufficient. Answer Options could be B, C or E.
From Statement 2: Ricardo < Clara and Ricardo is > Edgar
From this statement too, we do not get relation between John and Ricardo.
Statement 2 is insufficient. Answer options could be B or E.
Combining both statements: Ricardo < Clara = John
This gives us a definite answer.

COmbining the statements
E < R < C and J = 2E = C
i.e. Looking at highlighted parts we can deduce that R < J hence
