(1) Team X won 1/2 of its remaining games this season (after June 1st).

before 1st june 40%, and after 1st june 50% then overall 45%...why a alone is not sufficient??

As of June 1st, Team X had won 40% of the 45 games, and after June 1st, it won 50% of x games. The percentage of all the games the team had won would depend on x and would equal (the total number of games won)/(the total number of games played) * 100. That number would be between 40% and 50%, but the exact value would depend on x. Thus, we cannot take the average of 40% and 50% to get the answer. For example, if x = 45, so if the team played the equal number of games before and after June 1st, then yes, the percentage of all the games the team had won would be (40% + 50%) / 2 = 45%. However, if the team played say 2 games after June 1st, then the percentage of all the games the team had won would be (45 * 40% + 2 * 50%) / (45 + 2) * 100 ≈ 40.43%.
