Question: Time for carlos to drive = ?
Statement 1: Carlos's average speed for the trip was 55 miles per hour.
The distance of teh trip is missing which is needed to find teh time of trip hence
NOT SUFFICIENT
Statement 2: If Carlos's average speed for the trip had been 20 percent faster, the trip would've taken 3 hours
SInce the distance of teh trip was constant so
Distance = S * T
Distance = 1.2S * 3 (Speed 20% more and the time = 3 hours)
i.e. S*T = 1.2S * 3
i.e. T = 3.6 hours
SUFFICIENT
Answer: Option B

1st - Carlos's average speed for the trip was 55 miles per hour. We dont know the distance so we cant calculate time hence not sufficient.
2nd - If Carlos's average speed for the trip had been 20 percent faster, the trip would've taken 3 hours.
Distance = Speed * Time
Distance is same. Therefore,
1.2*Speed * 3 Hrs = Speed * Time
Time = 3.6 Hrs.
Hence Sufficient.
