How is statement 2 sufficient, there is no mention of the words being of the same length or that Ian reads each word at the same rate?
Also the fact that there is an "average" of 300 words on each page meaning that I could have an uneven no of pages and Ian at varying pace depending on the no.of words per page right?
Kindly help me out. Thanks.

If there are an average of 300 words on each page how many pages can Ian read in an hour?

(1) There is an average of 25 twelve-word lines on each page.
(2) Ian can read 30 ten-word lines per minute.

Hello Adit, GMAT treats “words” and “averages” as consistent units, so 30×10 = 300 words/min ⇒ 18,000 words/hour.
With 300 words/page (average), pages/hour = 18,000 ÷ 300 = 60, so (2) alone is sufficient.

Hello, thanks for your response!
So any question in DS involving averages I can assume that they are always uniform?

Not exactly, However remember that values can vary, but totals from averages (average × number) are always fixed. Like in weighted average question you can't assume all data are uniform, but you can say for sure that total is fixed.

As here we are just required to find out total quantity that's why it make sense here.

I hope this helps.
