What was the average number of miles per gallon of gasoline for a truck during a certain trip?

(1) The total cost of the gasoline used by the truck for the 192-mile trip was $23.00
(2) The cost of the gasoline used by the truck for the trip was $2.10 per gallon.

Average number of miles per gallon for the entire trip ?

= Total miles travelled / Total gallons used.

Statement 1:

(1) The total cost of the gasoline used by the truck for the 192-mile trip was $23.00

The amount spent for the 192 mile trip = $23.00

Total distance travelled = 192 mile.

Total Cost = $23.00

Total gallons used is not known.

Hence, Insufficient

Statement 2:

(2) The cost of the gasoline used by the truck for the trip was $2.10 per gallon.

Cost of gasoline = $2.10 per gallon.

Total distance is not known.

Hence, Insufficient

Combining both, we get

Total distance = 192 miles

Total gallon = ?

1 gallon = $ 2.10

for 1$ we get , (1/2.10) gallon

them for $23, we get (23/2.10) = (230/21) gallons.

Average = 192/(230/21)

Hence, Sufficient
