Chicago Booth Interview Debrief for Masters in ManagementTotal length: 28 minutes
Interviewer: Associate Dean of Admissions
Overall Structure- 18 minutes of questions from the interviewer
- 10 minutes dedicated to my questions at the end
Question Style & Content- Very standard, generic questions — nothing deeply personalized
- Classic examples: “Why Booth?”, “Why now?”, “What are your post-MBA goals?”
- No “walk me through your resume/CV” avoided the typical chronological recap
- Resume-related questions were narrow and experience-specific (e.g., “What data drove that decision?” or “How did the team respond to your recommendation?”)
- Zero behavioral “gotcha” questions (no failure stories, no conflict examples pushed)
Vibe & Flow- Exceptionally friendly and relaxed atmosphere
- Surprisingly large portion spent talking about football (Bears, college rivalries, NFL strategy) felt organic and rapport-building
- Conversation flowed wherever I wanted to take it — no sense of being steered or tested aggressively
- Interviewer seemed genuinely interested in casual connection rather than pure evaluation
My Questions Portion- Asked three prepared questions:
- Experiential learning opportunities (e.g., Finance Lab)
- Strength of alumni network in my target industry
- Support for career pivoters in the program
- Answers were direct, enthusiastic, and detailed
Prep Takeaways- Nail the classics (“Why Booth”, goals, why MiM) with crisp, authentic answers
- Know resume highlights cold be ready for spot follow-ups, not a full walkthrough
- Prepare 2–3 thoughtful, program-specific questions
- Don’t over-prepare behavioral stories unless they arise naturally
- Bonus: Brush up on Chicago sports(it might come up!)
