Hi,

I am taking GMAT in Dec '13 and aiming admission at ISB. The 2nd round of application for ISB will be closed by Nov'13. So if I send GMAT score to ISB while appearing for exam, can I apply for admission next year? Or I need to resend the score when application is accepted at ISB?

You don't "send" your score to a college. When you select the 5 colleges to which you want to "send" your score, your official score becomes available to them. So if you apply to these colleges, they will check out your official result to confirm your score. If you do not apply to them, they will not check your result. As long as your score is valid, they will be able to access it once you select to "send" it to them.

Until your official scores are valid, which is 5 years from the date of exam, you can send your scores to any school at any time before or after you apply. In other words, you can send your gmat score to ISB now and apply anytime in the next 5 years. If the school don’t find your score, they will anyway ask you to resend it. It is not difficult to resend it, even if you have to.

Is there any downside to a school seeing that you took the test 3-4 years prior to applying? Will they not think your score is as reflective because you took the GMAT test so long ago?

No. Look at page 14 of the gmat handbook to understand that percentiles change (by small amounts over time) and hence the school always gets the latest ability level. Hence it doesn't matter if you report an older score.
