First off thank you in advance for the reply. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge.
Just took the GMAT and scored a 690 (49Q/34V/8IR). Scored a 710 on GMAT prep test a few days before and scored high 600's on Manhattan Prac Exams (unrealistically challenging but good practice). 49Q has been my highest but I was scoring 38-40 consistently on verbal. Got food poisoning about 20 hours before I sat for the GMAT and recovered just in time to take the test, so I was definitely not my sharpest the day of the test.
Looking for advice if it is worth retaking the exam. I was really hoping for 710-720. Or at least breaking the 700 club.
Ideally I am shooting for MIT, NYU, Columbia, UT or UCLA. I assume Wharton and GBS are out of reach even with a 720.
Breif intro to my resume:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Southern Methodist University. GPA - 3.35
MS in Mechanical Engineering, UCLA. GPA - 3.35
MS in Petroleum Engineering, Texas A&M. GPA - 3.67
4 years work experience for Schlumberger (international oilfield services company)
Extensive overseas work/experiences, etc for potential short essay subjects
26 years old. Single white male.
Limited extra curricular activities beyond work and school.
Recommendations will be strong.
Do I have a shot at the schools I mentioned? I know a lot of the schools in that tier do everything they can do boost their average GMAT score average. Would raising my score from 690 to 720 help considerably?
Thanks again.
