Hello GMAT experts,
I had given my GMAT and scored a 680 (Quant 51, Verbal 30). I need a score between 720-740 for B schools I am applying (top 5 in US). I didn't take any official coaching and studied on my own. Clearly Verbal is my weak spot being a non-native as well. I have already studied the OG 2015, Kaplan Premier and Kaplan 800 for SC and CR. Also did the Manhattan SC. But it seems my basics are still not clear and hence the low GMAT score on verbal. I am retaking the test in a month. I need tactical advise on how to go about my verbal and probably need someone who can pinpoint where I am going wrong. Which option will provide me the biggest bang for the buck?
I mentioned E-gmat, Magoosh and GMAT Pill in the subject of this post. However, I know there are other options as well like EMPOWERGmat, Knewton etc. I need quick and actionable advise on choosing one of the options.

Hi NamanM,
With a 680/Q51, you should apply to any Business Schools that interest you. While that overall score will be 'below average' at each of the Top5 Schools that you might be considering, it is 'in range' of all of them. With a strong OVERALL application, you could very well receive an invitation to attend. That having been said, if the Q51 is a 'given', then a bit more focused Verbal study could help you significantly improve your Verbal Scaled Score (and thus your Overall score).
Based on what you've described, you took a 'book heavy' study approach to the Verbal section, which might be part of your problem. Many Test Takers who use that type of approach get 'stuck' at a particular scoring level, and I think that is what's happened here. Given your timeline, I can recommend the EMPOWERgmat Verbal Score Booster. Most of our clients finish that Study Plan in under a month, so it would fit your schedule perfectly. During that time, you'll also be able to access any of the Quant resources if you want a bit of extra practice.
