Need improvement strategies

Question

Hello,

My GMAT score is 640 (Q50,V27) in my first attempt. I would like to know the courses or Materials that would help me improve my verbal score. I need improvement in all the 3 sections (SC,CR & RC). My target score is 770.

Experts, please help! It is my humble request - do not reply with any promotional content. Any genuine help from experienced people would be highly appreciated.

Hi Sherlockgun,

A little over a week ago, you posted how you were not feeling confident about scoring at a really high level on the GMAT. If your score goal has always been 770, then you should have pushed back your Test Date. As it stands, no Business School actually requires a score that high though, so you have to be mindful that the score that you "want" and the score that you "need" are almost certainly not the same thing. Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

Goals:
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
5) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

I thought I would be able to reach 700. But there were so many problems in my test center. So I could not reach my target. Now that I have decided to take GMAT for the second time, I am targeting a higher score. 
1. I have been studying for around a month. 
2. Quant - OG. Verbal - Manhattan for all the sections, Aristotle RC, Power Score CR, OG
3. I scored 640 with Q50 and V27
5, 6. I am planning to apply for the programs through Under Graduate students get admission. Ex: Harvard 2+2, ISB YLP, Yale Silver Scholar, etc

Please let me know what I can do to improve my Verbal Score.

Hi Sherlockgun,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort yet to have score higher. By extension, it stands to reason that you'll have a better chance at scoring 700+ as you become more familiar with the GMAT. Scoring 770+ will require that you make some significant adjustments to how you handle the Verbal section though. Beyond doing lots of practice problems though, you would likely need consistent, professional guidance, so that you can learn all of the patterns, tactics and 'secrets' of the GMAT (without having to try to figure out all of that stuff on your own). Since you haven't named any specific deadlines, I'm going to assume that you won't be applying to Business School too soon - so you can proceed with your studies as you like.
