Hi,
I have been preparing to take the GMAT for the past 2.5 months and my target score of 700 is starting to become a distant reality. I have purchased
Magoosh and seen a stark improvement in my Quant. At the beginning of my preparation, my SC was my strong suit and RC and CR needed work. However, 2.5 months in, I seem to have grasped the RC and CR concepts well and am achieving a decent accuracy in the same. But my SC seems to have dipped to a point of no control and I always end up bombing my entire verbal section mostly because of selecting the wrong answer for 600 level SC questions.
Scores have ranged as below -
GMAT Prep 1 - 640 (Q49, V26)
GMAT Prep 2 - 610 (Q44, V30)
GMAT Prep 3 - 600 (Q42, V29)
Honestly, after seeing my scores drop with each attempt, I most certainly don't plan on taking the next 3 anytime soon till I can make significant progress. On analyzing my weaknesses I have noted the following -
1.
SC is really pulling me down. Have been through Manhattan and
Magoosh and I seem to have grasped the grammar, idioms, logic concepts. But whenever I select answers I still don't have the confidence that I am selecting the correct answer. I honestly am worried, because I don't know the most effective and cost efficient way forward when it comes to improving my SC. Any tips would be most welcome.
2.
RC - I have been able to improve by a lot in RC, as I make it a point to practice 3 passages daily. However, I now strive to achieve 100% accuracy in 700 level passages, while sustaining my accuracy in 600 level passages. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated!
3.
CR - Need tips on how to strive for 100% accuracy. Currently struggling with those "complete the statement" and "assumption" questions.
4.
PS - Needs major improvement as I do really well on DS. I tend to make a lot of silly mistakes (possibly due to time pressure) and am yet to master 700 level questions. I am currently focusing on improving my accuracy for 600 level questions and avoiding incorrect answers below 700 level.
Resources I have access to -
1.
Magoosh2. Jamboree
3. GMAT Club (my life saver)
Timeline - I am giving myself another 1 month to really pick up the pace and improve and target to take the GMAT mid November. I know I have the capacity to do well, I just don't see the same reflecting in my mocks. It feels like a bad representation of my hard work so far, and I am slightly demotivated. Any advise on how one can be patient and keep sane is also most welcome! I don't want this to be something that beats me, and I most certainly want to beat the GMAT and get that 700! Please help.
