Thanks for the feedback!

1) This is my first GMAT attempt.
2) My last two (GMAC) practice tests were 690 (43Q/41V) and 710 (44Q/42V). So, my overall score isn't a shock, but if you notice, my quant on my actual GMAT jumped 4 points and my verbal dropped 5 points.

Can I improve my verbal score? Yes.
Can I improve (or even replicate) my quant? I'm not as confident.

So, in response to your questions, I'd ask: if I retake and get a similar score (or even a slightly worse score) how much does that hurt me vs just keeping what I have? Do Adcoms just take the best score or do they try to analyze multiple attempts?

Well that's the beauty. It's a relatively risk-free operation. If you get about the same score or less, it doesn't hurt you at all, but if you get higher, it does. So if you have 20-30 points more on the GMAT it will help. GMAT averages are on their way up for Top 10s, and in the last years have gone above 720 (although they used be around the 700s). So the score becomes more and more important.
