Hi,
Thank you so much for taking out the time to evaluate my profile. My credentials are:
Gender : Male
Nationality : Indian
Age : 29 years
Academics :
Xth - 83%
XIIth - 87%
Graduation : Chemical engineer from IIT Delhi (Consistently ranked among the top 2 engineering universities in India)
CGPA - 6.5/10
GMAT - 740
Work experience :
Total 48 months
* 1 year 8 months as a Proprietary trader at one of the largest prop trading firms in India. Not very famous outside India though.
* 2 years 2 months as cofounder of an educational startup that grew to 60,000 monthly users. Did not not raise venture funding. The startup has been closed.
* Managing director of family investment firm for the past 6 months. This is part-time so I don't really know how much it counts.
Extra Curriculars :
* Director of a family run Non Profit organisation that is working towards the prevention and eradication of Encephalitis. It's a small organisation currently and work has been limited to 3 districts in India.
* Captain of hostel soccer team.
International Exposure:
3 months as an International Research scholar at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Activities & Interest:
* Traveling : Have traveled to more than 15 countries. Into exploring cultures and understanding the values and traditions of people living in different parts of our beautiful planet.
* Soccer.
Post MBA goal - Product Management at an established technology company or a high growth startup so that I can learn valuable skills I am currently lacking, and which along with the lessons from my previous startup enable me to create an organisation that significantly improves the lives of people involved.
My target schools are - Wharton, Berkeley, Kellogg, UCLA. My main considerations are Location (Silicon Valley) and placement in technology companies. I plant to apply in R2 2015-2016.
I would love to know your view on my profile, preferably the weaker points and things that can be done to mitigate the weakness in my profile.

Hello there good sir,
So let's start by having a look at the strengths and weaknesses of your profile. So first of all, having gone to IIT Dehli is great as top schools tend to recruit a lot of folks from the IITs. On the other hand, your GPA is not that stellar... But you do more than make up for it with your great GMAT. So overall, pretty good.
For me now your biggest two weaknesses are however 1. your work experience and 2. your lack of strong volunteer work or extra curricualars. Now your work experience I'm less sure about because I don't have enough detail.. but if I read through the lines, I see that you had a trading job, tried a startup without funding, it didn't work, and you haven't yet found a job yet, so you are doing some work for the family... which all in all doesn't read like the best success story... so a LOT will depend on how you spin this situation - it IS possible for sure to turn entrepreneurial failures into successes, but it takes a lot of thought and hard work. for the second part, I just don't see that much or that interesting stuff, and it will be VITAL for you to figure out how you can stand out from other candidates to make the best possible application.
So, some issues here, but surmountable with a lot of great work on your applications. I'd also suggest that to play it safe you add 2 safe schools in the second 10 (so ranked 10-20).

I definitely hear your points. Here' how my career has actually progressed till now : I took up the trading job and worked for the organisation, but did not find it aligned with my career goals. So I quit and started up my own company, which did not work out. I already have a job working with a startup that is very well funded (Series C) and is among the top 3 companies in it's sector in India. It's been only a month here, so I assumed that probably won't make much of a difference.
My short term aim is to get a product management role at one of the big startups/ tech companies in the Valley. I am working in product management here in India, so that would be a like for like change. I hope I have clarified some points.

) A failed startup is no problem at all (on the contrary it can be awesome).. So I think still aim for the main schools you are going for in the top 10, add 1-2 more in the bottom half of the Top 20, and with great applications (and stories) the sky is the limit.
