I would appreciate if someone could evaluate my profile.

Academic Credentials:

10th: State Board 82 %
12th: State Board 64 %
Graduation: B.E in Civil (2016 Graduate, Pune University) Aggregate 64%

Work Experience:

2016-2017: (1 Year) Worked as a Site Engineer overseeing construction aspects of a commercial and residential construction work.
Skills: Vendor Management, Site Supervising, Negotiations, Civil Engineering, etc.
2017-2018: (1.2 Year) Worked as CADD Engineer at CADD Centre (Training institute). Provide training and career counselling sessions to
professionals/graduates on civil engineering tools.
Skills: Public speaking, Presentation, Cadd Engineering, BIM, Civil engineering tools (MSP/Staad/AutoCAD,etc.)
2018-2022: (3.5 Years) Worked in one of the leading renewable engineering company in Indian Geography in Operation & Maintenance function as a Civil
Engineer. Oversaw infrastructure across Indian Geography and lead rectification projects (for civil issues). Project budget: 2Cr's. Clients:
ReNew, Adani, HCC, etc.
Skills: Project Management, Vendor Management, Civil Engineering, MIS, etc.

Recently switched to one of the EPC/EPCM firm which is a leading engineering company in IT function as a a member of COE team for civil engineering tools. (Switched as a better career opportunity financially as well as it would add brand name and skillset to highlight for applications)

I wish to work in Consulting and am targeting for One year MBA programs in Indian B schools for April 2023 intake. (IIM A/B/C and ISB)

Preparing for GMAT: Last mock score 610, preparing to score at least 700.

Extra Curriculars: No major activities.
Part of social organization, Did some college events during bachelor's, Scholarships (back in school).

The strength of one's profile is related to the programs to which you are applying. Can you share more about your interests? Do you have a preliminary list? Do you have any preferences?

It's also clear by your own admission where your profile is strong (work experience) and weak (GMAT, ECs).

Hi Admissionado,

Apologize for such a long delay, I had took a time off as i was running tight on deadlines to Indian B school and couldn't keep up the rigors of new job and GMAT preparation together.

To answer the things you mentioned:

I wish to get into Management Consulting and with that in mine I am much inclined to apply to ISB. If the college is out of reach, and with post MBA work opportunity in India I am also considering other Indian B Schools (IIM A/B/C).

Though working post MBA in INDIA is my most preferred destination, I don't have any reservations. I would also be keen to consider opportunities in USA/UK/Australia/Canada (As long as I have good shot at best B school and scholarship to support).

Not a problem!

As for US schools, the key here is if you can get a 700 (or at least very close to it.) If you can pull it off, then I would take a look at some of these schools:

UNC (Kenan-Flagler)
Emory (Goizueta)
UCLA (Anderson)
USC (Marshall)

These are great US-based programs that place well into management consulting and, with your background, could potentially open up some nice scholarship opportunities.

Hi Admissionado,

I gave my GMAT yesterday and scored a 680 (Q50, V31).
With this score, do you think there's a fair chance for colleges you have mentioned earlier in the thread?

I have been following on Emory (Goizeuta), and had also selected the college for sending score's.
For me finance is one key aspect which I need to manage, so on this score what are my chances for getting scholarship?

I appreciate your help and advice!

Emory and UNC are still good fits. UCLA and USC are going to be tough (a 700+ would have really helped), but you should definitely apply as they are not out of the question.

I don't think major scholarship money is coming your way for these schools. Assuming you are accepted, you might get something (and can even consider appealing for more) but I doubt it would be anything closer to a full-ride. If you really want scholarship money, you are going to have apply to much lower-ranked schools.

Background and nationality: Indian, male, age 29
Undergrad: Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Telecomm Engineering from a top public university in India (Nationally, ranked 10th in engineering)
GPA: 7.53/10, roughly translates to 3.33/4
GRE (323 160 Q, 163 V) I underperformed on the day and have a retake scheduled this week
Looking to join an MBA program in August 2024
Already applied to: Emory Goizueta, Georgetown McDonough, Cambridge Judge
Other Shortlisted Schools: Oxford Said, Cornell Johnson, Dartmouth Tuck, NYU Stern, UNC Kenan Flagler

Work Experience and Leadership (~6.5 yrs at time of joining program):

3 years at a major US digital marketing agency where I was part of a founding team that helped set up a service delivery centre in India for the agency. Led a significant amount of knowledge transfer from international teams to set up the practice. Led discovery sessions and requirements gathering for every new client the Indian business unit onboarded for the marketing platforms practice for the first six months. Onboarded roughly 15 accounts in total over this period and trained 70+ new joiners. Worked directly with business unit head in talent acquisition- screening, managing job posts, ATS, and vendors (job portals, hiring agencies). Headcount grew from 4 to 200 in 6 months, interviewed hundreds of candidates and filled 80+ open positions. Was the lead consultant on several client accounts with demonstrated impact on business KPIs like engagement, conversions and CAC

Close to 3 years at Goldman Sachs working in the Asset Management marketing team. Led go-to-market activities on digital channels for 7 ETFs, managed performance marketing campaigns targeted at fund distributors, institutional investors and family offices that led to gross sales of over $476 mn, led a 25 member team for post-merger integration workstreams for platform integrations, rebranding, website reskinning, rebranding of over 370 funds. I also lead the SEO function within Asset Management Marketing. My role involves a lot of cross functional collaboration across sales, tech, portfolio managers, investment and product strategists. I am also directly exposed to the investment research and thought leadership that is produced by the investing teams as that is a key component of our marketing messaging.

I also lead the mentorship program for the entire Asset Management marketing team (roughly 80 people) under direct supervision of the Asset Management CMO.

I led 3 person team to regional finals of Analyst Impact Fund, where teams identify nonprofits that are tackling global challenges and pitch innovative solutions to the firm’s leadership.

Older experience:

After junior year in college interned at an Indian NGO called Goonj where I did fieldwork in rural India, directly mobilizing 150 individuals for rural development projects such as canal digging, shed construction, cultivating a school kitchen garden. Built a lead list for fundraising. Organized collection camps that raised over 1 metric tonne of material and $24,000 in monetary contributions. Worked directly with organization leadership to launch a range of upcylced products to monetize surplus material by producing and marketing a range of upcycled sustainable lifestyle products (bags, accessories). Set up kiosks at collection drives, earned $1200 gross sales in pilot.

Post MBA goals: Long term is to set up a PE firm focused on deploying growth equity in India. Short term is to transition from Asset Management marketing to a more core finance role in IB, preferably in FSG an group. Currently networking within GS across Global Banking & Markets and Asset & Wealth Management and self-learning to prepare for the transition. Looking for a pre-MBA internship and am actively reaching out to people in my network to help land a role. Would appreciate any information around how to secure a pre-MBA internship that can help my transition.
