Demographic:
27 year old white male. Dual citizen of US and ME country.
GMAT:
690 (Q 44, V 40, IR 4, AWA pending). Retake resulted in lower score. Not a good standardized test taker and burning out.
Education:
BS Mechanical Engineering from a top 50 University in US.
GPA: 3.0/4.0.
I lost a close friend freshman year resulting in some mental health issues. I had to retake a fair few classes but got a grip by the end of my 4 years. Ended my last year on the deans list.
Have a few certificates from quantitative courses through work. One Injection Molding 101 and a 99% score green belt training certificate worth 96 credit hours towards an official Project Management Certificate
Work experience:
All experience after undergrad internship has been in a single well known foreign economy class automotive OEM stationed in the US. Think household name.
-1yr: Rotational development program
-2yr: Equipment Project Engineer- Lead on multiple multimillion dollar conveyer/equipment projects to build upcoming car models.
-1yr: Product Development Engineer- Reviewed designs for upcoming North American cars (Primary Engineer for rear body development) and responsible for coordinating departments in manufacturing plant to transition product from concept to manufactured product. Product is well known, think top 20 sold cars in US.
-1yr: Lead Technical Product Development Engineer- Promoted early to lead engineer on team. Not direct manager to other employees but I am assigned projects for upcoming car models where I am given a team of engineers from other departments to delegate tasks to while managing budget, schedule, etc.
Major emphasis goes towards my time as a equipment engineer.
I would like to say that this plays a big part in my story. This was a very "roughneck" environment and I was . This trial by fire has defined my work initiative and is the reason for my fast promotions. In a given day I could be on the production line covered in weld slag or directing contractors on construction plans. An hour later I would be designing equipment or compiling bid packages. By the end of the day I might be presenting to foreign and regional executives for million dollar budget approvals.
Extracurricular activities:
-Company Diversity Initiative: Leading project on rewriting our division's job postings to be more inclusive towards URMs. Developing an exit survey to integrate with our servers to collect data to improve division's work environment for future associates.
-General community service through company.
-Lead racing simulator planning. Simulators used for company's race team promotion at automotive events.
Post MBA goal:
Automotive is going through a substantial transition. Not many are aware of the situation behind closed doors. I would like to leverage an MBA skillset to transition towards product planning/business ops for EV transportation.
Schools of interest: Kelley, McDonough, Anderson, Tepper, Foster.
Far Reaches: Johnson & Ross
I recognize that I am below the average GMAT and GPA target for a lot of these school's. I am curious if I am close enough to the target scores that my work experience would be able to assist me. Any input is appreciated.
