My main difficulty, especially in Data Insights, is the time it takes me to understand what the question is actually asking.
Earlier I used to read everything blindly. Now I apply a structured approach learned from GMAT Club videos by KarishmaB. Thank you for those. However, I still take too long to connect the pieces, and I have noticed this pattern repeatedly, with two examples highlighted below.
DI feels harder because it is new to me, even though this timing issue exists in other sections as well. After solving a question, often incorrectly, I spend most of my time just understanding why I went wrong. By the time I do that, so much time I have spent on this question that it feels unbearable to spend more so I move on to the next question. I feel I am missing on post question analysis.
Could someone suggest a practical way to fix this? Specifically, I’m looking for:
For example this question - The ChildCare Center (CCC) is a medium-sized child care facility that : Multi-Source Reasoning (MSR)
I am taking a lot of time just to read and orient myself in this question, and that is causing my total solving time to blow up. For the first question, I took 6 min 38 sec, whereas the average time shown in the history is about 3 min 51 sec.
I struggled to decide what data mattered for the first question. The sentence “The classroom assignment and daily fee paid to CCC for each child are determined by the child's age on Friday of the previous week” initially made me think I should compare Friday to Monday, so I went down the wrong path before realizing the question only needed Monday of Week 2 vs Monday of Week 3.
When I read the official solution, everything looks straightforward, but during the first reading I get lost trying to connect all the information and identify what is actually relevant for the question.
Other case where I take time is when there is typical words which gmat plays with. For example
In a study conducted over several years, seabird and domesticated cat : Two-part Analysis (TPA)
Researchers found that over the course of the study, the relationship (R) between seabirds and domesticated cats was such that the island's seabird population was three times as likely to decrease from the previous year if the island's domesticated cat population increased (even if slightly) during the same year. The researchers are about to begin a second, follow-up study with the same duration as the first study. Based on recent trends, the researchers made the following projections: R will hold and the island's domesticated cat population will decrease during more years of the second study than it did in their first study.
Now to verify each of the yellow highlighted words in the option, I had to keep going back to the question to verify

Here's what worked for me, and I think it directly addresses both of your questions.
For improving comprehension speed on Multi-Source Reasoning specifically, the biggest shift I made was to stop reading everything before looking at the questions. Instead, I'd spend about 30-40 seconds skimming each tab just to understand what type of information it contains — is it a set of rules, numerical data, an email, a policy description? Then when I read the actual question, I already know which tab to go back to. This alone cut my reading time significantly because I stopped re-reading tabs I didn't need.
For your post-question analysis checklist, here's what I'd suggest for each DI question type:
For MSR: After solving, ask yourself — (1) Did I identify the right tab for each piece of information? (2) Did I combine information from multiple tabs correctly, or did I miss a constraint from another tab? (3) What was the one sentence in the passage that was the key to the answer?
For Graphs and Tables: (1) Did I read the axis labels and units correctly? (2) Did I confuse absolute values with percentages or rates? (3) Did I need to calculate or estimate — and did I pick the right approach?
For Two-Part Analysis: (1) Did I set up the relationship between the two parts correctly? (2) Did I test my answer by plugging back in?
On the specific example you mentioned — taking 6 minutes 38 seconds versus the average of 3 minutes 51 seconds — the gap is almost certainly in the orientation phase. When you see a question like the ChildCare Center one, try this: read the question stem first, underline exactly what it's asking, then go find only the relevant data. Don't try to understand the entire scenario before answering.
One more thing that really helped me: I started timing myself not on the whole question, but specifically on how long it took me to understand what was being asked. If that phase alone was taking more than 60 seconds, I knew I needed to adjust my reading strategy, not my calculation speed.
Keep at it — DI clicks once you build the right habits, and it sounds like you're already on the right track by analyzing your mistakes systematically.
