Northeastern gave me over 50% off tuition (tuition is 44k per year) and I have an interview at BC next week. I'm just trying to start thinking about a decision in the good fortune I am accepted to BC. I am assuming I will not get any money there as my GMAT's and W/E are on the low end of their spectrum.
I have a finance background and am looking to get into corporate finance, and hopefully eventually strategy. The scholarship, in addition to Northeastern's 6 month residency, will keep my costs down significantly. On the other hand, BC is my dream school and is a bigger name, reputation, and higher ranked. I am looking to stay in Boston so national brand is not important as I know both are more regional, especially NEU.
One concern is that I have 3 yrs W/E which is low for BC but normal for NEU. Also, I know BC gets students who got into higher ranked schools but BC gave them money. So basically, I wouldn't be a top candidate coming out of BC, but I could be in the top 10% at NEU if I do well. Bottom line, NEU's starting salary is much lower than BC's. But I most likely would be getting a mid to lower type position from the BC class. When I say mid to low I mean in relation to classmates. So the top kids get the best offers and so on. What does a lower level BC offer look like? Is it still around 85k? Basically is a mid to lower level BC offer significantly better than a mid to high level offer from NEU? The difference in debt will be significant. Will BC's overall better reputation, ranking, alumni base be able to make up for this?
When I started out the application process, BC was always my top choice and I was basically praying that I'd get accepted and couldn't imagine turning them down. But 50k from Northeastern is a nice offer.
Any suggestions?
