Hi Everyone,

I signed up today and I am glad I did!! The resources available here are awesome!
Well, I need advise... Firstly,let me elaborate on myself.. I am currently working as a Senior Manager in the the Supply Chain Management division of a well reputed multinational organization . I am planning to sit for my GMAT in May. Due to heavy workload, I am not able to give enough time to studies..though I am trying. (My aim is 750!) :?

My undergrad GPA is 3.95 in Engineering, which is pretty good I think.
Now I need yoru help to help me choose a good university for MBA with specialization in supply chain management.
As far as I know..MIT is the best in supply chain..Smeal is good as well.

But, can you guys let me know which other grad schools are comparable?
How are the scholarship possibilities?

Hi Sam,

Best of luck - you're in the right place if you want an MBA - the help on here is staggeringly good and everyone is a really great bunch. I couldn't have got through my GMAT without the support on here.

You're right that MIT seems to be the best for Supply Chain/Ops - it seems to be the only Top 10 program to me with a real emphasis on Supply Chain (and of course the MIT name will give it weight in that area). I think Stanford and Wharton are also strong as well in the top tier. I haven't done enough research to know much about lower down though.

I'm based in Europe and I can tell you its pretty slim pickings over here for Operations. I've been to a few MBA fairs and it seems very finance/consulting-based, especially in the best schools.

All the best - we've got similar backgrounds so might be competing come September!

You have a great GMAT score..I need to score as good as yours..if not better..

Depending on where you want to end up (US vs. the rest of the world), INSEAD has a specific program geared towards supply chain management where you do a significant leg of your time in business school living in SE Asia actually on site learning and the rest in Paris. If i remember correctly, that program has a fantastic track record with on-line stores and high-tech distributors (Amazon comes to mind).

IMO, specialization reputations are only important as you get into the lower half of the top 50. Yes MIT is an amazing school, but I would not pick Smeal over the likes of Ross, Darden, Fuqua, etc because it's "better" at supply chain. More often than not, the Top 15-20 schools will get you where you want to go regardless of what area you're interested in.

If you're qualified, it sounds like you'd be interested in MIT's Leaders of Global Operations (LGO) program. Check it out:

Ross' Tauber and
Kellogg's MMM :- not a supply chain program. Basically, a dual degree - MBA + MEM). Check if if it suits your goals.

Thanks! I was aiming over anywhere over 700 so pleased with what I got. There's a lot of GMAT obsessives on here but some of the wider advice (and I think I agree) - if you get above the 700s around the averages for the top schools it starts to become less significant for extra points. I think with common sense, the biggest psychological difference on an admission form must surely be having a 7 at the front (the same way shops price things x.99 not y.00)?

I've send some introductory emails this week but no reply so far. I'm hoping its not a cold shoulder and admissions staff are just very busy at the moment with final admissions for this year.
