Just got accepted from WL for Tuck yesterday so I now need to decide between Tuck vs. Ross (both have no $). I read some other posts but their post-MBA goal is all for consulting.
here are the background:
1. Major in Accounting but I want to switch to industry, focus on general mgmt or strategy, perhaps in consumer products
2. 5 WE in Big 4 tax for international assignments and HR policy
3. have some international background, fluent in few languages and wouldn't mind to go for a job in Asia or Europe after graduation
4. Back up plan would be consulting? or go for something in HR...still trying to figure that out
Both Ross and Tuck are known for the close-knit community and team works; they all have great reputation for general mgmt; I love both schools but here are my concerns:
Ross
- no int'l loan so I am in process of selling my condo unit to get enough cash for visa app; housing market is not doing so good in my area so it's a big unknown factor
- on the other hand, Ross seems to be a better school for career switcher (read from another post), especially going into strategy side within industry
Tuck:
- there is a chance of getting international loan? although I don't know how the chances are
- downside seems to be that majority of recruiting company are for IB or consulting, not sure about the placement for my interest post MBA
Appreciate any insights, as I said, these two schools are super similar so I am having a tough time to pick.

Honestly, I don't think these schools are as similar as you think. For example, I applied to most of the top programs that are known for their community and have smaller class sizes (Haas, Sloan, Tuck, Duke), but never really saw Ross in the same light. Yes, both sets of students love their respective schools, but you can say that about almost any top business school. Here are a few pretty big differences:
Curricular focus
Ross is huge on action learning, whereas a huge percentage of Tuck's curriculum is case-based.
Class size
Tuck is a much smaller school than Ross, especially once you factor in the sheer number of undergrads at Ross. Would you rather be at a school where you have 500 classmates or 280?
School environment
Michigan is a Big 10 school. As an international, you may not know what that means, so let me share that with you: sports is a huge deal. At Ross, lots of bonding with your classmates will happen before, during, and after Michigan football games. Does that sound appealing to you?
On the other hand, Dartmouth is a tiny school in sleepy New Hampshire. While there will of course be plenty of house parties at Tuck, Hanover is not a college town in the same way that Ann Arbor is. This is truly a huge difference I see between the two schools.
Career placement
On a per capita basis, Tuck has a better track record of placing students at top consulting firms. Whoops, I misread your post. For general management, both schools will probably get you in the door. I'm not too sure about corporate strategy, though.

With no $, I would choose Tuck.
Ross is definitely of high calibre, due to its action based learning and if you want to go into consumer goods it's a great school. But recently they have faced a huge dip in terms of their selectivity/exclusivity, and I wouldn't feel safe going there at this point in time.
That said, such things are fluidic and this situation might turn around in the near future.
As for Tuck - great gen mgmt program. The only thing is because of its' location I am not very sure if many on-campus interviews get conducted. But given the Tuck brand I am sure you can reach to any company and talk to them.
