Need to decide between Rotman and McGill - 10k scholarship.
International (Indian) candidate
Work Ex - 3 yr in US, IT followed by 2 yr Operations in family business.
Post mba : Consulting in IT or strategy IT
I know learning French would be essential to get job in Montreal, which I am willing to do.
Class size : McGill has ~ 80 whereas Rotman ~ 400
Employment : after 3 months McGill ~ 80 whereas Rotman ~ 47
I know McGill comes as winner here but Rotman has better reputation and Toronto is center for IT.
Anyone here could help me tip the scales.
Ty!
Congrats on getting accepted!
Two hard choices to make. First, I recommend watching a TED video by Ruth Chang "How to make hard Choices" It will give you a new perspective on how to decide.
I think it is you should go to Rotman.
First, has a better reputation. Second it is in a prime location. I think many students don't consider this enough. Statistically MBA's place most of their graduates in their home state/location. This means that where you go to school has an influence on where you are going to end up working. Toronto is great for IT and it is the field that you want to go into so it is best to go to a school in Toronto.
Also, having many students in your class is a benefit. Some people think that having fewer classmates is a benefit but this is wrong. IF you have more classmates, it means more chances to network. + more alumni to tap into. More discussions + more broad perspectives to consider. I think there is a value in having lots of classmates. 80 is way to little. Yes everyone will know everyone, but with a class of 400 you are going to be able to find a 'better' network.
10k.. hmm. this is very minimal. It should not factor into your decision at all.
Conclu: you should think about where you want to stay after graduation. This should be the biggest factor. Also it might be best to visit both schools and go to a school with a better feel.
Either case good luck. Let us know where you end up going.
Kudos!/
